Baseball Bat Maintenance and Care
A well processed bat can already withstand a lot of abuse. But the serious player should carefully nurture and maintain it at all times. We recommend following maintenace tips
- This is hard, i know, because everybody wants to try it out. But do not let anybody else use it. If you only use it, it will last much longer.
- Be careful on how you hold your wooden bat. The "label" should be up on contact. This is old, but some of you may not know about it. Very important, otherwise your bat can easily crack or break becaus the grain is much wider on the label side. The label is placed there just for this reason.
- On the other hand if you have an aluminum baseball bat, you should turn it slighly before each at bat or swing if you like. Therefore the bat will be used and broken in cleanly without one spot taking the bulk load.
- This should be clear, dont use it in very cold weather. And do not expose your bat to extreme temperatures as can prevail in the trunk of a car or garage in the middle of summer or dead of winter. Stash your bat in a bat bag and store in a warm dry place.
- Use only high-quality balls to hit with, preferably leather baseballs. If you hit in batting cages, use appropriate balls only. Dont take any chances if you want to get the most out of your bat when the game is on the line.
